Tenacious Boscage

Hunter's Wake

The path through the wood of the Tenacious Boscage is nearly invisible beneath the shade of tall, broad trees. The ground itself is thick with coarse grass and a tangle of seemingly misplaced vines and blankets of moss. Those who have pledged themselves to the pack will be able to find their way more easily than those who haven't, and it becomes even more dangerous as one draws nearer to the heart of the wood.

The small female scurried her small body along the soft, green, forest floor, her marbled fur softly blowing in the wind. It had been an honest while since she had seen other wolves, after all of the prey went scarce from all of the hunting that the humans had done to the lands, ridding them of the food. Asdis, herself, had been living alone for a while, slowly getting used to the solemn life of living alone.

Her heart was crushed, not to long ago. Her mother insulted her, calling her worthless and stupid various times, and shooed her off, but that isn't what made her sad, it was what her mother had done to her father. Asdis' mother had murdered father, so to say. It was very heart-wrenching to witness it yourself, also. Her father being brutally murdered, and her mother running off to a different land was what led her here to Norway, though coming from South Norway.

Asdis' life slowly improved from there on, her still being under two years is what's the problem. She is very mature for her age, mostly using the knowledge she obtained from her father for the past few months before he was - ahem - murdered. Her heart wasn't fully healed, yet, she was still feeling the pain from that tragic event, even though it had happened just under 10 months ago.

Yawn. The whole forest—if he could call it that, it was more of a jungle—was one big yawn-worthy fuckfest. No, he changed his mind. It wasn't even worth his valued efforts to produce a yawn for this place, that's how much it lulled him. Sure, it glowed and sparkled with vibrant walls and blankets of moss, vines, ferns as they dominated every surface, almost like it was their job. With all Sasha knew, it probably was. It was pretty surreal at first, but it was quickly becoming a pain in the ass. Lifting his gaze, he huffed an exaggerated sigh. Fallen trees, slopes, and faces disguised in a sea of earthy-smelling fuzz, served as some sort of mythical obstacle course. It was all he had seen for the past few hours. He had already been in one hell of a pissed-off mood to begin with, which was already taking toll on his health, both physical and mental. Those were the two things he happened to neglect the most when in one of his bitchy moods.

Yet, he couldn't blame it solely on himself, even if it was his fault. Nope, it wasn't his fault the forest had a massive slope, wall of flora, or fallen tree at every turn. This place seemed to be tempting him into a frustration-induced mental breakdown. Catching prey was a whole other story, he had only ever once came across such an insanely-dense forest in his life. He wasn't built for fast navigation in this type of area, as he was smaller and less muscled than most. He would never admit it, but his size did take some toll on every-day life. This place was exhausting, and he swore to whatever conniving, magical, pain-in-the-ass being above, that he had seen that tree over there twice already. There was nothing worth doing here to pass the time—well nothing except just walk around aimlessly until he happened to find something to really occupy himself with. Hunting? That wasn't an option, he'd tried already and had zero luck. Training, perhaps, but he was already worn out enough. Climbing and jumping can turn out to be a pretty difficult feat after some time. Sitting still and doing nothing? Fuck, the last time he tried doing that, it ended up terrible. And ashamed of himself, for a change. He always did after some weird, sappy emotional breakdown. The lesson he learned—for the millionth time—was to never ever leave himself alone with his thoughts.

Fuck, there I go again. Thinking. For once in forever I'm telling myself not to think. Wow. he thought, a flutter of anger filling the pit of his stomach and rising up his back. It always started like that, first the pissed off mood, then the dwelling, and then his favorite part, the pathetic swell of emotions and episode where he ate himself up and thought about every stupid thing he had done in his life. The sickest part is, he enjoyed it to some extent, but he also hated it. It was draining. It made him feel weak and miserably inadequate. Which, in those episodes, that's what he dubbed himself as. Shut the fuck up, he groaned at himself mentally, taking in a deep breath lazily so that a huff escaped him. He pressed his paws firmly against the damp terrain, obsidian claws digging into the dirt. He lifted one of his skinny yet powerful appendages and moved forward in a slow, hesitant half-pace. His hind legs slip upward until he could place it directly in the paw print that he had left behind. He slunk forward again, and his large shoulder blades rocked smoothly beneath the chocolate fur that covered it. The canine's pelt glinted in the soft light of day; faint soft ebony hues glimmering amber here and there on his frame.

Sasha was small and compact for his age and sex, though he had grown a bit over the past months. His dark fur, however, was just as it always had been, stubbornly untidy no matter what he did with it. His muzzle was short and narrow while on his head rested almost over-sized triangular ears. Of all weird, different things about Sasha, the meaning behind his appearance was the most extraordinary. Sasha was a runt. And, yes, was it an insecurity. That he'd never voice, however, instead, he'd use his anger to fuel him to do the things any normal wolf would. Though, he had to admit he was lucky even to be reaching his second year. He lifted his muzzle upward, eyes scanning the sky for a sign of distress or upsetting in the woods, perhaps a band of fleeing crows in opposite direction of any disturbances. Gazing absently over the undergrowth as he slunk lazily, it took him a few seconds before Sasha realized what scent he was breathing in. It's physical presence was the last thing he needed to confirm it's identity, but it's scent was there to prove what it was. Another canine.

"Oh, no," he breathed. "What the hot mess of fresh fuck am I gonna get myself into?" Icy heat crawled up his shoulders and into his face, hugging his temples in an almost cold, yet burning grasp. He felt a sudden jolt as his heart thudded into hyperactivity, a coppery taste filling his mouth. He sucked in a short, gasping breath, his lungs burning with each breath of air that he struggled to gulp down. Was he in pack territory? If so, then they made a shitty job of marking their god-damned land, which would give him good argument if he were confronted. A flutter of anger lit up inside him at the thought, but he lost interest in feeding it as he contemplated the other options. It was either that, a loner, or some dog who trailed a bit too far from their home. He prayed for the median.

Blinking to focus his view, the male turned his cranium, gazing at his surroundings as if to check for his new acquaintance. With a small snarl, his legs felt slower, heavier. Weaker. There was no way he was going to get away if there happened to be a spar. "Fuck," he groaned under his breath, drawing out the syllables a little to long, but all in the simple intention express his displeasure. What exactly are you gonna do to get yourself outta this one, asshole? he quietly worded to himself in his mind. Mistakenly, a low growl broke out of his throat, thick and catching in his saliva. Shit.

The female jumped at the words from another creature, and it wasn't hard to tell what creature it was. Her ears perked up at the strewn out curse words, and low growls, which honestly frightened her a bit. Her body froze in place, as if she was paralyzed by the sound that was oh-so familiar.

"Hello?" The female cautiously said as her tail flicked from side to side, her eyes curious and body heavy. No answer was what she got. She was tired, you could put it that way, but pretty much nothing can define how tired she was. Her head hung low as she stepped forward, following her nose, instead of her mind. Of course, it wasn't an instinct for wolves to follow random scents of wolves littered along the forest, but Asdis was curious.

But as the saying goes; 'Curiosity killed the cat'. Her heart was telling her no as she continued to walk without a doubt, but the growls were still sending her a warning. True, you never know what you can find in this forest, but she was hoping it wasn't any predator of some sort.

She had finally found, the animal that was making the growling noise, and of course, it was one of her own kind. Her head was dipped low, and her small frame was somewhat shaking. "Um, hi?" She replied, almost like a question, as those two words spilled out of her mouth like water out of a glass.

Paw steps sounded. Sasha's ears flickered sensitively at the sound, the heat of anxiety creeping upon him once again. His paws shuffled across the earth, the thick, flora-infested carpet rustling slightly as delicate pads brushed and pressed against the cool, leafy masses. The soil beneath the greenery was sodden with recent rainfall, that still clung to leaves in droplets, making the floor alive with dazzling hues and sparks of light and natural forest colors. The air that was already humid with moisture seemed even thicker as Sasha counted his breaths. He felt restless, yet sluggish in his subtle steps, his frame swaying as he looked around to spot his new company. He was already labored from his exploration. His sides rose and fell in short, panting breaths as he subconsciously fought the effect of over-exertion and nervousness.

Sasha turned his head to the right, observing and scrutinizing his surroundings. He watched as a bird jumped into the air in a crazed frenzy, beating it's wings against the air as it swung away into the darkness of the canopy. An alarmed yet quiet call rang from above, and he watched as another two took off. Releasing a quiet sigh, he swung his cranium back around, and realized that he really wasn't looking where he was going. So much to that he only noticed his surroundings when the forest opened up before him to reveal a sight that chilled his veins. Another wolf. "Um," she began. The sound was spoken softly, feminine tone that was short and clipped. It was obviously a voicing of question, surprise, as to why exactly he was here. It was probably wise to reply now, but then her maw parted again. White incisors glinted in the dim light, the sharp point sending chills down his spine . "Hi?" Her voice sounded again, this time more open-ended, no signs of hostility, all but awkwardness. Maybe even a bit nervous.

Now that the quiet took over again, two questions hung in the air, one as to why she had no venom, and what her intentions where, the second as to names. If she was in a pack, why the hell was she traveling alone? Especially if she had the predisposition to shy away from any newcomers. Sasha needed to speak. Now. He truly had to. So why couldn't he just start ranting? Did she even deserve his bitching? She didn't personally offend him, maybe baffle him a bit. Ugh, I'm too tired. I'll save it for later, he finally decided. His jaws parted, but no sound was made, instead only silence ran across his tongue. He closed his mouth quickly to stop himself from standing gaping before he tried again. Nothing. Okay, you're usually great with yapping at people. Come on, he told himself mentally, both irritated by his lack of words and a bit embarrassed by it. Clearing his throat, he wondered if he could just apologize and walk away. No, he had some questions to be answered. Taking a deep breath and forcing his brow together in a light frown, he forced a small surge of will power. "'Hi' yourself," was his rather scrappy rebuttal, which he almost stuttered, which would subsequently made it almost impossible to get to the next few. Thankfully, he made it, however, and gave a mental 'thank fuck' in praise to his success. "You alright?" he queried, hoping she'd catch the quick look he swept over her frame, which was locked up in what Sasha assumed to be nervousness. Over what? A massive, dangerous, and strong brute like me? Please, he mentally voiced, sarcasm sending bitter amusement to his chest. He was far from massive. In fact, if his angle were right, he swore he was even smaller than the female before him, if not just a little bit. Regardless, it was a bit flattering; not often did he have this effect on people. How cute.

"You alright?" The male said. Asdis shook her head in reply to the male. "Yes, I'm alright just a little scared, and possibly, maybe, shy." She said as she as she lifted her head a bit higher, now feeling more confident. True, this wolf was quite small, but not as small as Asdis. She looked at the male, her eyes meeting his for a split second then going back to the ground. Oh - how awkward she was.

"Sorry to bother, but what is your name?" She inquired softly as she slowly sat down in front of the wolf, looking around at the scenery instead of the male. It was far too awkward for her to make eye contact with him. As it is, she has a tendancey to be shy around all genders of wolf, including females.

Sasha took his eyes off the ground and looked up at her, watching as she nodded her cranium. "Yes, I'm alright just a little scared, and possibly," she seemed to pause for a milisecond before letting the next words roll off her tongue, "maybe, shy." He knew he had done wrong long before he had even entered the forest, circled around the edges for quite some time, even trying to lose his quarry, but in the end he made his decision. At that point, he had been expecting something different. He didn't know what exactly. Perhaps nothing, a few little helpless, stupid animals to prey on. He had grown suspicious as he had gotten deeper, but the further and further he got away, the more certain his paranoia was more than just a feeling. It took those few changes in the wind to bring the scent right past him, even if only for the briefest moments. He hadn't caught the girl's scent until it was far beyond too late. All he had to go on was that he simply didn't know where he was and that the borders were terribly kept. It wasn't the first time in his life he had encountered another wanderer. A simple sigh relaxed the tensed cords through out his body in response to her spiel, and he lifted his wandering gaze as she shifted her position.

Sasha pulled his sight into focus and looked at her, his heart fluttering in his chest when his eyes met with her own. Heat burned his face and he dropped his gaze once again, fixating it to the side when a leaf's subtle twitch caught his attention. The female's soft voice spoke once again, "Sorry to bother, but what is your name?" Sasha listened as the unfamiliar tones of her voice rose and fell, curling around a note that meant one thing; inquiry. He understood why she was wary to upset, wanting to presume a somewhat passive role and have little quarrel as possible. It was probably too early to judge, but she was probably the least annoying wolf he'd ever meet in a long time. Or maybe he was just too tired to really find anything worth bitching about. "Why would I be bothered about that?" he countered, shaking his head and letting a curt laugh air out the first few syllables that escaped him. "My name is Sasha," he then added. The bad thing about not having anything to bitch about was that if he wasn't bitching, he really had nothing to say. Small talk was a huge weakness when it came to him. But then again, it was nice to not be exceedingly annoyed by someone, for a change.

Asdis returned a small chuckle to the male, as she she dipped her head to formally - or informally - greet him. "The names Asdis, but feel free to make up any nicknames for me. I'm not that picky." Her face lit up, but only a bit to the coming of a new face, and a possible friend. But judging by the way Sasha had greeted her, she could tell that there was possibly going to be no friendship. Yeah, it was hard getting along without anyone to live with, but she was still a yearling, trying to learn her ways in this world.

Of course, she did feel her face heating up when the male caught her gaze, Asdis wasn't used to this; talking to males, and them actually responding back, for her growing up it was hard for her to converse with the others, usually being left out on a day-to-day basis, but then she ended up out here, alone, from not peaking to anyone, which probably would've came in handy if she needed a place to stay.

Yet, she somehow managed to live by herself over the years, even though it was somewhat hard to manage herself on her own, and still being that young made it even harder. Her mind was somewhat destroyed, as I should say, from the many months of sleepless nights, and underestimating fights against larger wolves and animals, has led to her being pretty much a hermit.

PostSubject: Re: Tenacious Boscage   Tenacious Boscage EmptyThu Aug 14, 2014 11:24 pm

In the simplest way to put things, Noah was tired. The male had a terribly restless mind, sleeping is an acclivity he only has the pleasure of partaking in if he is calm and feels safe when everything is right for him. Its not even that he has nightmares or anything (which he does have nightmares sometimes, but they're normal non-stress induced nightmares) but more so that something just isn't right. Its something he finds hard to explain to most people, he just stays up distracting himself with different things.

He remembers very vividly just recently laying on the foliage, his head somewhere between the clouds and the tree tops. He tried to count, but the numbers were hollow and he kept getting distracted and there wasn't enough things to count. After a while of counting stars that he was loosing track of he decided he needed to walk. He found that walking is a slightly more calming nature than sleeping, but still he was drop dead tired and his paws were like a heavy burden to his legs. He wanted more than anything to sleep really but no matter what he did he just couldn't. He'd tried to lay down for a while quite a bit of times but when he closed his eyes to sleep the darkness was overwhelming and the noises of the forest seemed to be amplified to an obnoxious level. At this point he was just tired and irritated. It had been almost 24 hours with no sleep and now that it was daytime he had no hopes of sleep.

So instead he just walked on and got lost in thought. Noah thinks about a lot of things. He thinks about social situations and the way people act in them, mannerisms. He also likes to think a lot about history and time and then everything always goes back to counting. He had started counting how many steps he's taking a few seconds ago and he was now at 10 going on 11. He sped up some, so he was trotting and got to 30 steps. He kept doing this for a while. Slowing down and speeding up and counting steps to occupy his busy mind. He only stopped when he heard voices and he stopped at a solid 174, which really wasn't that great, a very small number in the all the possibilities of numbers.

You can actually tell a lot about someone based on the tone of their voice. Someone who is an extravert like Noah might have a more loud and proud voice and a shy canine would likely have a more quiet voice. The two voices he heard now were hard to make otu though and he was already curious so he walked the short distance (putting him at 194 steps). The voices were a bit clearer now and he was sure if he just walked till he reached maybe 220 steps he could probably see the wolves. Standing where he was at the most obvious thing was one voice belonged to a male and the other a female judging by the octaves. Though, some men have high voices and some females have deep voices so you could never be to sure of yourself. The higher voice seemed kind of awkward, and Noah thought maybe they had just met.

He felt kind of rude wanting to interrupt the to of them but he was itching for excitement. Of course there was the fear of the two acting aggressively but he figured if it went bad he could just run as quickly as his sore paws would take him.

So he walked the next steps until he could see the two of them but he wasn't sure if they could see him. Just in case he took one more step and let out a soft bark to get their attention.

k l i m
what am I doing here

Nature was loud. The seemingly calming sway of a hundred trees, the sound of a timid drop of water finally accepting its fate down the path of a stream. Nature was stinky. The dreamy scents of the woodland would fill the nostrils of one who opened to the nature.

Thoughts will become blurry and fade from the mind, unless you focused on what mattered.
Surviving.

'Of course, I've only one thing to prove. One thing I have evidence for.'

Ignoring the deafening noises, blinding sights and horrid smells, a small, white creature, lost in the wilderness, rose from the ground. It traveled with a new sense of certainty.
'Just look at me. Survival of the fittest does not apply whatsoever.'
Klim's eyes seemed to brighten with her renewed self-confidence. She paced through the green without expression, all except concentrated eyes and folded ears, intent on discovering the unfamiliar voices of the woods.

A low growl erupted from a russet colored female. She’d tried 3 times. 3 fucking times to catch 1 rabbit. Why in the hell had she not caught it already? Frustrated, Des took a deep breath to calm herself, her tail curling tightly over her back and falling into a neutral position as she exhaled. The scents of three other wolves traveled up her nostrils and sent an unpleasant shiver down her spine. Judging by the muted voices she heard in the distance, along with the soft bark, she knew she was close. "Bloody Hell” she sighed in annoyance, her huge frame ducking under a branch as she moved closer to the trio. Soon, Desaira came into view and damn these wolves were small. Well, to her at least. Only the biggest males were taller than her. With a long sigh, Des stood next to the male farthest away from the pair that was currently talking. "Hello” she spoke softly, her British accent heavy in her tone. The female shifted her weight from paw to paw as she stood over the male. "I’m Desaira, but please call me Des or Aria” she smiled kindly at him before turning back to face the pair. "Do you know what they’re talking about?” she wondered and slightly cocked her head to the side in confusion.

The marbled female sunk back into herself on her own, her body controlling very muscle in her small frame. Of course, she was nervous because of the various number of beings around her, most being her own kind, but she wasn't used to being around this many people, as her life span consited of heer being solitary. Of course, she had just now got used to Sasha over a time-span of minutes, but the new creatures weren't so welcoming to her. They were practically coming in from left and right, without any sign that they weren't hostile, or on the look for anything to hunt.

She looked around nervously at the other beings surrounding her, immediately backing up and moving around, seeking a place where she could calm down. Of course, the only side to this somewhat breakdown; it was her social life. Of course, you people reading this would already know that I'm the narrator of Asdis' story, therefore putting it where I can make her do anything that I want, but anyways, she was as well almost like this when she met Sashenka. But of course, her small frame had started shaking, from pure shyness. Her head was ducked under a bush, and she tried to even out her mismatched breathing, taking in deep breaths of air, and slowly letting them out.

Flowers guide the way
down the path that I must take.
Forward I must go.

Silently, he counted syllables in his head. 5, 7, 5.  Perfect.  It wasn't uncommon for him to form haikus in his head.  He was a poet.  A naturalist.  A silent bystander.  Also he was extremely lonely.  As he walked, he wondered if the trees ever got lonely.  Surely not as lonely as he, for they had other of their kin to... you know, hang with.

With only trees to
listen, one can get quite bored.
I fucking hate this.

5,7,5.  Another haiku spun off the top of his head.  Whoop-dee-fucking-doo.  It had been far too long since he'd had a bit of company.  He hated the silence but at the same time, didn't want to hear himself speak.  He was itching for a new voice.  The last time he went this long without hearing anyone speak he feared he had gone deaf.  For this reason, he opened his mouth to speak quietly to himself but all he could hear was that stupid fucking st-st-stutter.  That shut him up for another few days.  Of course, here the birds were far too busy roaring and gossiping and screeching to fear having lost his hearing.  Still though, he yearned for a new voice.  He lusted for a new voice but none met his ears.

The sky is not so
lonely as me.... oh fuck it.

Sleipnir was sick of haikus.  And sick of walking.  And sick of stutters and thunder storms of birds and and and SHUT UP BIRDS!

Of course the birds couldn't hear him because he hadn't actually opened his mouth.  He still found it extremely annoying that they ignored him.  He wondered if they even noticed or appreciated his unusual need to avoid eating meat.  Including these ungrateful poultry.  For a moment, he wondered why he bothered.

And then something in the air changed.  He could smell... you know wolves.  He picked up the pace as the sound of those damned birds faded to less than a whisper.  He still couldn't hear any voices.  He was dying to get into earshot.  He just wanted to hear something.  He just wanted the five? six? wolves in his line of sight to SPEAK UP.  Just a whisper, just a hint of a word from someone's God forsaken lips and he could be on his marry way just say something.  Anything.  He settled some hundred or so feet from the band of wolves and strained his ears intently.

They wouldn't stop talking to her. They wouldn't leave her alone. She was being slowly drove to a painful death by the voices inside her head; the ones who just wouldn't shut up. To quiet them she kept whispering a string of numbers under her breath, "1, 1, 2, 5, 8." She couldn't stop... other wise they wouldn't stop. They would simply continue to scrutinize her every move and criticize her every decision. She couldn't stop. She couldn't or else.. they would continue. They would continue.. they would continue.

Those were the thoughts held inside of the female's mind, her honey sweet voice echoing lowly into the air with a hint of fear toward whatever she kept repeating those numbers for. They didn't know who she was.. they couldn't know who she was. Coming to a very abrupt halt, Marionette's golden eyes widened and her ears flicked back as she began to think, "How did the aliens get inside my head?!" Hidden within her subconscious, she knew it was irrational but her full consciousness was stunted as well as all others'. She couldn't pick up on what was real and what wasn't; she couldn't understand that there weren't any aliens in her head. Nobody has penetrated her. She needed to talk to someone; get these thoughts off her mind. "Right, let's do that," she muttered to herself, setting out on a crusade to find these others scents that lingered within the air.

Her slender frame loomed within the grove of trees, almost copper tinted irises falling upon any unknown silhouette that could be the figure of someone who could relieve these thoughts from her mind.

Iscariot stumbled through the greenery, his paws throbbing and his eyes empty. He hadn't been keeping track of the days since then. Since Calliope nearly tore off Amos's leg. He replayed the scene over and over again in his head, going over every detail, every movement, every scent and every color. It's not that he wanted to recall that day, no. He just couldn't allow himself to forget it. It was this unconscious urge, this need to remember it. It was the day that everything had changed. On one hand, it was a good thing. It was a great thing. He was free, no longer bound by his fear of Amos and, by default, Cannon. He could start over. He could find a nice, tranquil place to settle down on his own for a bit, and just enjoy the world.

But he wasn't focusing on the negative. The negative... the way Calliope had looked at him when he ran away, a mixture of sadness, emptiness, and fatigue. Fatigue from what, Iscariot didn't know, but he doubt that he'd be getting the answer to that question any time soon. And... oh dear lord. Cannon. How did Cannon react to Amos's death?! It was extremely doubtful that he was simply unaffected by it. Iscariot knew very well that Cannon had a bordering-on-obsessive need for Amos's approval on almost everything he did. To see him dead... how would he react to that? And more importantly, would he react violently? Did he immediately start pointing fingers, did he immediately blame Calliope?

Or did Cannon blame him? Was it possible that, driven out of the obsessive love he had for his brother, he dedicated himself to finding Iscariot and killing him? The timid wolf's ears flattened against his head. He knew that this was just useless paranoia, but the idea that Cannon was out there to get him, just lurking and waiting for the perfect chance to strike, terrified him. Cannon was a competent, strong wolf. He just had issues with independence. He was more than capable of tracking down Iscariot and giving him the same slow, painful end that Amos had seen.

He dragged himself back into reality, however, when a strong, familiar scent found its way into his nostrils. This scent. Wolf scent. No -- not a single wolf, multiple wolves. He stopped in his tracks, tucking his tail between his hind legs and letting out a long, high-pitched whine. Shit. Wolves. It's... kind of weird to say this, but Iscariot didn't like other wolves. Wolves were not inherently friendly creatures. At least, that's what he gathered. Wolves were predatory creatures who defended their territory against any and all stragglers that managed to find their way in, be it purposefully or accidentally. They didn't have time for mercy. They had one-track minds; kill or be killed.

Okay, maybe Iscariot was being a little... irrational, for lack of a better term, but setting aside the offensive one-track-mindedness his fear was completely justified. The only wolf that he's ever encountered who has shown him mercy was Calliope, and well... He thought Calliope was special. Different. That Calliope had enough kindness and acceptance to make up for Cannon, Amos, Elodie, and Erol combined.

He shook his head. He was getting off track again; wolves. Near here. And while he was going in depth about his distrust for other wolves, the scents had gotten stronger. Judging from the strength, he guessed that they were just beyond this thicket of bushes. He was downwind, so unless one of them had an insanely strong sense of smell, they probably couldn't catch his scent. But they might be able to hear him. He wasn't the most graceful of wolves; he spent these last few weeks parading obliviously the woodland, marching noisily over crunchy leaves and twigs. Well, he supposed that at this point, he should just try his luck and see if he can sneak by undetected or simply just wait them out. He knew he was bound to be discovered sooner or later, but hey. Might as well put it off for as long as he can.

Anarchy slid into the brush silently. Her lungs were on fire, and her paws were bleeding. She lay down to remove the thorns from her matted fur and began to clean herself off. It was as if she were a pup all over again, running away from the monster she once loved. Closing her eyes, she recalled everyone who abandoned her.

Her mother, Monarchy, slaughtered at the jaws of her father, Treason. Her sister, Crisis, missing after the death of her mother. Lavi, her best friend and perhaps something more, taken by merciless hyenas. Kiba, another close friend, left without goodbye. And Zahr.....

The mountain wolf shook her head to free her thoughts as a tear slid down her cheek. Rising to her paws once more, she trotted across the foliage, nostrils flared in search for food.
