Welcome to Renholdër! Here is a quick rundown of what this place is and how to get started playing here.

 Who are we?
Renholdër is a structured, linear roleplaying forum. Renholdër is part of the canine roleplay genre and is set in a fictional location in Norway where life in the wild is difficult, made more so due to nature's ever-present threats. The purpose of Renholdër was to bring back the small community feel of old linear roleplays. It was created to foster creativity and cooperation in a relaxed, slower environment, but also keeping aware of a realistic timeline and pacing. Renholdër is meant to be cooperative fiction, instead of having a glorious, encompassing plot. The will to survive, however, is distinct, deep-rooted, and pressing.
 Why the weird name?
Renholdër is a reference to many things and many meanings that will only fall into place as time lapses within the roleplay, however, has one main connection to the song Renholdër by A Perfect Circle. It can mean multitudes of things. One, that it is a curse used to dispel the influence of a personal enemy, as in the song there is a voice-over playing in reverse, reputedly deciphered by machine as:
    I know who you are
    I could know your mind
    Lies
    I will not
    I will not fall down
It can serve as an empowering tool, as if to not fall down or succumb to some other force such as nature's way and other threats to survival. Another option is purity and cleanliness. Whether of consciousness, past, or understanding, that still remains. While Norwegian resources are somewhat limited, in one dictionary the definition of "renhold" was given as "cleaner". Thus, "renholder" would expected to mean cleaners. However, the "ë" is strange, for that is not a letter in the Norwegian alphabet, unless it exists in one of the many dialects. It could also simply be someone's name, or maybe even some sort of brand. It could also be the present tense form of the verb "at renholde" meaning "to keep clean", which can be applied to the plot in many, many different ways. We chose this name because our roleplay focuses on the dynamics of relationships between characters, family ties, struggles of power, and development from childhood to adulthood. The concepts of "keeping clean" is also something that plays with the idea of consciousness and perhaps even grasping onto a "clean" or "clear" understanding what it really means to be alive and well, important elements of our roleplay universe. For us, character development runs our story telling. The name "Renholdër" is a tongue-in-cheek way of expressing that, and also to give it a snazzy, interesting, and overall pretty fucking awesome theme-song. We hope you'll come join us in our quest for good stories and interesting characters.
 How to get started
We've created a simple set of guidelines to help you get started playing with us.
  1. If you are new to play by post roleplay or canine roleplay, then visit our New To Canine Roleplay guide. You'll find all of the information you need to get started in this genre and this roleplay's structuring!
  2. Read the rules. Much of the rules pages are really just guidelines to help you play along, rather than hard set in stone rules. The majority of rules we have are bendable if it allows players to have more fun.
  3. Read the setting page. The first page is an overall description of the area and will help you get an idea of where the game takes place.
  4. Register an account on the forums. Remember that your username should be the name of your character, and should not include numbers or special characters. This applies to each and every additional character you may register with. Remember, always inform one of your site admins before making those extra characters, as it helps us keep track of who's who.
  5. Once you've registered, create a biography in this thread. It really doesn't matter how it looks. If it's plain or decorated in HTML, we don't really mind. In all honestly, we just need a quick run down of your character, however, we greatly appreciate some effort. In your biography, you're asked to run over your character's name, gender, age, species, desired rank (which can also be filled out in your profile if preferred), physical appearance (can be provided with pictures), overall personality, love life (if there's any), and history, which is optional if you wish to save that for roleplay.
  6. Once you finished your biography, including taking it off the "WIP" tag, you must for a staff member to look over it. We may ask for some minor changes to flesh out your character, but don't be afraid to ask for help! Once you've been accepted and your biography has been moved to the right place, you're free to begin roleplaying.
  7. All characters will start out as a loner, also known as Vagabond, and what they do from there is up to you. You can have them try to group others together to form a pack, or you can have them try to scrape by as a independent loner. It's all up to you!
